Travelers can now navigate PDX a little easier, after Google released its first ever indoor mapping application for Android compatible devices, including an indoor map of PDX. With detailed floor plans of the airport now available, travelers can locate their boarding gates; find favorite restaurants and shops, and scout out other places of interest with ease.
The indoor map automatically appears when users view Google’s map application on their Smartphone. If travelers are inside the terminal, the familiar “blue dot” icon shows their location in the building, and when they move up or down a level, the application updates to display which floor they’re on.
The application maps out all the airline carriers, baggage carrousels and more. Google’s implementation within the airport arena is similar to that of ‘My Location’ for outdoor spaces, but fine tuned for indoor areas.
The Port of Portland supported Google’s efforts to map the public areas of the terminal building on Smartphones, to operate an airport system that satisfies the needs of the region, including customer service and dedication to its providers.
